I loved staying here, simple as that. It is, without doubt, the complete antithesis of Playa del Ingles - peaceful, charming and full of history and character.  This a real working hacienda located in the middle of a banana plantation. It’s gorgeous, and even more so because it still functions as a plantation. The main structure itself is a grand rustic building surrounded by some farm buildings. The farm buildings are used to maintain the plantation and the hacienda itself has been converted into a hotel.  My room was very comfortable with a well appointed bathroom and very comfortable bed. I stayed in a junior suite which was fairly large but less bright than I expected; however I chose to see it as atmospheric and moody, which indeed it was.  I found everything about the hacienda enchanting - its peaceful location, the lovely views across the banana palms down to the coat, the views up to Arucas, the birds chirping, the odd farm vehicle harvesting large bunches of bananas and the colour of the sky against the oche coloured hacienda.  This is not a fancy hotel, it’s not slick, it’s not polished and perfect. But it doesn’t matter; I loved its rustic granduer, I loved its honesty and not having had its character and history knocked out if it by unsympathetic and insensitive refurbishment.  The WiFi was excellent apart from not being able to auto join every time I left and came back. TV was great if you were a Spanish speaker, not so great if you are not. My TV was Netflix enabled but I couldn’t find other apps like Prime.  All the staff were kind and helpful. The breakfast was very good and served in the restaurant which is an atmospheric converted stables. If not exceptional, there was a good selection of choices that would suit most tastes. I enjoyed dinner in the restaurant too and found the food tasty and very reasonable; again not exceptional but good home cooking.

It’s a lovely, rustic, sprawling, old property, converted into a beautiful and interesting building to holiday in. Each room seemed to be unique; mine had a very high ceiling, with a bathroom in the corner, where the bathroom walls changed to glass panels at the *very, very* top to maintain the feeling of space. All walls are white and furniture seems antique and dark wood. It’s just the opposite of a modern, cookie-cutter, mundane and nondescript hotel - an aspect I particularly loved. There’s a large lounge area with big, comfy settees and a huge open fireplace and hearth for the cooler evenings. Games are also provided. Our stay was over Christmas and I don’t know of live music is always provided for evening meals, but we had a charming and talented violinist playing quietly in the background. Our entry to the evening meal was marked by a glass of Cava and a large, red rose - little details that made me feel welcome but not in the big, mass produced way of a package holiday. I think that’s because the staff are client-focused, with big smiles and conversation for all. The grounds are very well maintained and the secluded pool area with sun beds is a lovely spot for a read and a drink (if you’re not a swimmer, like me!).

Arriving in Gran Canaria on an early evening flight, we had searched for an interesting, traditional hotel for one night, that was also within easy distance of the airport and served dinner. Hotel Rural Hacienda ticks all these boxes. This hotel has so much history and an abundance of charm and character, having been sympathetically restored. The staff were all welcoming and charming: they made us feel very much at home. Our room was spacious, comfortable and immaculately clean, with a lovely view over the surrounding banana plantation to the sea beyond. The menu for dinner offered Canary Island cuisine and our waiter was very helpful in advising us on the local wines. Breakfast was also plentiful with a huge choice of meats, cheeses, fruits, pastries, breads and drinks on offer. The grounds are well maintained and colourful - and there is also an attractive outdoor pool. Many thanks to all the team for a most enjoyable stay.

Excellent breakfast. Ate 4 out of 5 evening meals there too, 3 courses €28, good choice of authentic Gran Canarian cuisine. We had a lovely room, view of the plantation, 1st floor. Very comfy bed. Great shower over a bath. Daily room clean, fresh towels both for the pool and in-room use. A walking route into Arucas is possible, although part of the walk is up a fairly steep, cobbled, uneven path, takes about 15-20 mins. Lovely and quiet setting, surrounded by banana plantation. The pool and jacuzzi were very well maintained. So many places to be able to sit and chill out/read, enjoy a drink etc around the property in the shade or sun! The beautiful, huge, lounge with an amazing open fireplace was heavenly in the evenings! All of the staff were amazing, friendly, helpful etc We would return, most definitely!

Staying in a banana plantation with the smells of jasmine and sweet fruit as well as the overall ambience was unreal. Staff friendly and will help with things, offer to show you traditional foods at breakfast (very good with even fried bananas from plantation)! Owner Ricardo friendly and took us on a tour and recommended a great walk and restaurant ‘La Cilla’ in Artenara!
